Standing Near Sinai

I was there, at least according to
tradition, but I’m not sure exactly what happened
since it was hard to actually see the words

when Moses tried to explain what YHVH had
meant when God’s voice painted the sky and
the earth screamed in silence.

I was at the edge of the multitude, back with
other women, children, assorted Egyptians and
Others who didn’t make it into the census.

If you want to get technical,
two million People Give or Take,
would spread over about two square miles,

don’t quote me, I’m not so good in math,
but I have learned who counts
and that men often use doublespeak.

We couldn’t see or hear Moses
from that distance, but word got around
we were betrothing ourselves to a jealous God.

Since no other matchmakers were allowed
to present different options, I said yes, sure,
I choose this once in a lifetime opportunity.

  1. Amazing words and stimulating. Thank you. Are your poems going to be published in a book? I could help raise the money needed. Love.
