Across the street, in the second floor window
sits a Calico Cat
her head turning, back and forth, slowly
when people walk down the sidewalk
quickly, back and forth, when cars
whiz by going too fast, in my opinion,
even though there’s a speed limit,
a fact that is not entirely irrelevant here.
On this side of the street, in my
second floor window, I sit
looking for signs and answers,
reasons for existence, the meaning of life.
The Calico Cat seems content
to simply watch what comes and goes,
fast or slow is all the same to her.
I wish I could be like the Calico Cat,
I could sit calmly in the window
and simply observe what passes by,
