The Rooster & the Donkey

Every morning the rooster declares
let there be light, he crows
triumphantly because he
believes the light is his creation.

He gives no credit to lesser birds
whose gentle chirpings stirred the
winds of dawn, waking him from
his dreams of glory and dominion.

Man, too, crows triumphantly,
believing he knows the secrets of
creation and that dominion is his,
the master of the universe.

When the donkey balks, refusing to
accept this distorted vision,
she is beaten for her interference
in the affairs of men.

But Man would do well to listen
to the Donkey. The voices we ignore
are very often telling stories
that can lead us to redemption.
