My soul was there and she remembers
standing in pregnant anticipation 
to receive the Words of Divine Covenant.

But on that fateful day Divine Words 
flowed from God through the mouth of Moses 
directed by Moses only into the ears of men.

Moses rephrased God's commandment 
that all the people should be pure, 
telling the men “do not go near a woman.”

How easily Moses interpreted Divine Words 
to be exclusive, keeping power in the hands of men. 

At Sinai women stood far from the Mountain, 
our agreement to do and to hear was assumed, not given.
Thousands of years later we are forbidden to get too close to the Wall.

We will not stand again at Sinai 
in the Women’s Section, silent and obedient,
only to repeat the same old story.

We are standing at Sinai again, but this time
we are going ourselves up the Mountain
to give our answer directly to God.
